Laura Biagiotti

Laura Biagiotti is an Italian fashion designer. Biagiotti was born in Rome in 1943, and started out with a completely different interest than fashion, having studied archeology at the University of Rome. But she soon found that she preferred a career in fashion. This came about because she helped out in her mother's small clothing business, where she only stayed until 1965. After that, she chose to start her own clothing store in Florence with her partner, Ganni Cigna, who later became her husband. Their company manufactured and exported clothes from the great Italian fashion designers, Roberto Capucci and Emilio Schuberth. As their business grew, Laura Biagiotti's desire to start her own fashion brand also grew bigger and bigger. In 1972, she was able to present her first collection of women's clothing. After this, she became particularly known for working with high-quality fabric, which included cashmere, which is why she was also nicknamed "The Queen of Cashmere". Her collections for women were often in loose-fitting designs that complimented the female body in the best possible way. It was not until 1987 that she launched her first men's collection, and since then she has, among other things, created the brand Laura-Piu, which makes clothes for larger women from size 42 and Laura Junior, which is a children's clothing line. When Laura Biagiotti's husband, Ganni Cigna, died in 1996, she started the Biagiotti Cigna Foundation in memory of her late husband. The foundation gives scholarships to young aspiring designers so that they have the opportunity to study abroad, among other things. Laura Biagiotti has everything from shoes to perfumes on her resume, and back in 1982 her first perfume for women, Fiori Bianchi, was released. Today, the brand makes both men's and women's perfumes, and their best-known perfume Laura Biagiotti Roma is still on the market to this day. Laura Biagiotti's designs are recognized worldwide and her collections have received several different awards, and in 2002 she was even honored by the release of an Italian postage stamp featuring her.
