Marc Jacobs

The American fashion designer, Marc Jacobs, is best known for his brand Marc Jacobs and the sub-brand Marc by Marc Jacobs. Marc Jacobs was born in 1963 in New York and spent many of his teenage years with his grandparents. In 1981, he graduated from the High School of Art and Design and then studied at the world famous school, Parsons School of Design. His career took off already at the end of his school days when he designed a series of sweaters hand-knitted by his grandmother as part of his final project.

In addition to winning three of the school's prestigious awards, his Op-Art sweaters at the Parsons fashion show were spotted by Barbara Weiser, owner of New York's Charivari store, as well as the proprietor of Sketchbook, Reuben Thomas. This gave him the opportunity to design two collections in collaboration with Sketchbook as well as being employed by Perry Ellis. Marc Jacobs launched his own design company, Marc Jacobs International Company, in 1994 and in 1997 he was appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton. In 2001 he introduced the sub-brand: Marc by Marc Jacobs.
