Glycolic acid is one of the most widely used ingredients in exfoliating products and is loved by beauty editors, bloggers, celebrities and dermatologists.
No matter what skin type you have, you should incorporate it into your routine, so we got together with SkinCeuticals to understand why.
What is glycolic acid?
Glycolic acid is a form of AHA, otherwise known as an alpha-hydroxy acid. Derived from plant sugar, it is also commonly referred to as a "fruit acid" and is one of the most effective chemical exfoliants you can use to achieve a healthy complexion.
< br data-mce-fragment="1">Due to its extremely small molecular structure, it can easily penetrate the upper layers of the skin better than other AHA acids. This makes it one of the best acids to give a visibly renewed and fresh look to dull skin.
How it works glycolic acid?
Unlike BHAs (beta hydroxy acids), AHAs work on the top layers of skin cells to dissolve dirt, oil, impurities and dead cells.
If you suffer from combination skin, glycolic acid can be an excellent alternative to physical exfoliation. Its non-abrasive texture gently restores the skin without the need for an overly harsh scrub.
What are its benefits?
If you have particularly mature, sun-damaged, blemished or oily skin, glycolic acid works wonders, but as a general rule it can be used for all skin types.
Due to its incredible ability to dissolve dead cells and impurities on the skin's surface, it helps to increase cellular turnover so that the skin appears brighter, fresher and more luminous. By removing this surface dirt, it means that all other products can be better and more easily absorbed into the skin, so you actually get more out of your skin care.
What is SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight?
SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight is where all the glycolic acid magic happens.
Glycolic Renew Overnight is one of the most (gently) powerful and effective formulas we have ever tried. Unlike many other glycolic acid products, this potent night cream delivers a true 10% concentration of glycolic acid to the skin (known as free acid value if you're a scientist).
The cream contains 10% glycol mixed with 2% phytic acid, which helps improve skin clarity and brightness, and soothing botanicals such as sunflower seed wax, glycerin and jojoba oil. on your skin while salicylic acid helps soothe and reduce the appearance of blemishes.
Over an 8-week clinical study period conducted on 52 women aged 35-64, SkinCeuticals observed incredible results from Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight.
Across all participants, the following improvements:
36% average improvement in radiance
37% average improvement of skin texture
19% average improvement in skin tone
To use, apply a pea-sized amount all over face and neck ( an area often neglected but one of the first to show signs of aging) and let it sink in.
When you use glycolic acid, always make sure to follow up with a broad-spectrum SPF the following morning, as your skin can become more sensitized and exposed to sun damage when using an acid.
Vitamin C is not a new ingredient, yet it remains one of the "trendiest" and most important skin ingredients according to dermatologists and skin scientists.
As a result of its effectiveness and results-driven nature, SkinCeuticals puts vitamin C at the heart of some of its best-known products. Their "Prevent" range contains 6 antioxidant-rich formulas, 5 of which are packed with vitamin C.
What is C- vitamin?
Vitamin C is considered skincare royalty and is arguably one of the most important antioxidants your skin needs to stay healthy, glowing and protected against external aggressors.
For use in skin care, its best and most active form is known as ascorbic acid. Sometimes seen in an ingredients list as L-ascorbic acid, it is the most studied form of vitamin C, making it one of the most understood and useful forms of the antioxidant for our skin.
Why is vitamin C good for the skin?
Known for its powerful abilities to lighten and correct pigmentation and darkness spots, vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) also works wonders in helping to keep the skin youthful, plump and wrinkle-free. By helping skin cells fight off external and environmental aggressors, it fights the toxins and pollutants that can damage your skin's structure.

Founded by leading dermatologist and researcher, Dr. Sheldon Pinnell, SkinCeuticals has always been ahead of its time when it comes to innovative formulations and ingredient foundations. Dr. Pioneering the role of antioxidants in skin care, Pinnell was the first to patent a stable form of vitamin C that has been shown to penetrate the skin effectively, delivering eight times the skin's natural antioxidant protection, the brand's range of antioxidants was and remains the gold standard for topical antioxidant skin care in the industry.
With nearly 40 years of research and experience under his belt when he founded SkinCeuticals, the brand dedicated to producing breakthrough skin care that would work well below the skin's surface to produce long-term and visible results.
Dr. Sheldon Pinnell sadly passed away in July 2013, but his legacy and founding principles live on through the work that SkinCeuticals continues to do, alongside the passion and dedication they put into their research and product formulation.
Defends the skin against free radicals: As vitamin C is an antioxidant, it helps fight the oxidation process and prevent free radicals from damaging skin cells. An example of oxidant stress would be damage from UV light, which although vitamin C cannot protect the skin from, it can reduce the appearance of damage such as brown spots and pigmentation.
Increases collagen production: Due to its potent properties, vitamin C helps your skin produce its own natural collagen supplies, making it one of the most powerful and useful anti-aging ingredients in the beauty industry. By keeping your skin working hard on the collagen front, skin appears plumper and more youthful for longer.
Reduces pigmentation: Also known as the "auxiliary antioxidant", vitamin C helps the skin to heal itself when it is damaged. This includes everything from sun spots to pigmentation. If your skin is going through any kind of trauma, vitamin C is an ingredient you should include every day in your beauty routine.
Why use a vitamin C serum from SkinCeuticals?
